ShopRite rolls out in-store meal kits

ShopRite has launched a line of gourmet-style meal kits for customers seeking affordable meal solutions that are creative, easy to make and prepared with better-for-you ingredients. Each recipe was created by a professional chef and contains an entrée that serves between two and four people. The pre-portioned kit includes fresh vegetables, a protein such as chicken, beef or pork, olive oil, and a signature specialty sauce. The meal kits meet USDA recommended dietary guidelines and have been approved by ShopRite’s team of corporate and in-store dietitians.

Meal-Kit Thai-Coconut-Chicken The packaged kits, available at select ShopRite stores in the supermarket’s six-state trading area, include a variety of entrees such as Thai Coconut Chicken, Chicken Marsala, Korean Beef Stir Fry, Moroccan Chicken and Pork Scaloppini.

Whether customers are cooking novices or seasoned pros, each meal kit has detailed cooking instructions on the package to make the process easy, fast and fun.

“We know our shoppers want to enjoy healthy, delicious dinners, but finding the time to cook a meal from scratch isn’t always an option,” said Geoffrey Wexler, vice president of food services at ShopRite, who added that recent industry statistics show that approximately 53 percent of dinners are planned within an hour of eating. “With the introduction of these meal kits, we’re able to offer our customers a simple way to create a five-star meal that is less expensive than a subscription service, doesn’t require advance planning or prep work, and can go from store-to-table in just one pan in about 15 minutes or less.”

The pre-portioned kits are the latest entry into ShopRite’s ever-increasing portfolio of complete meal solutions. Currently, select ShopRite supermarkets offer a large selection of restaurant-style, ready-made meals under its signature brand, ShopRite Kitchen. Select ShopRites also offer customers a signature ‘Meals Made Well’ food cart, which features all of the ingredients needed to create a “meal of the week” that is located in a stand-alone refrigerated case, using recipes inspired by ShopRite dietitians and corporate chefs.
